The Callisto Protocol DLC, The Final Transmission, is here and fans want it sent back.
More players are getting their hands on a new piece of content for The Callisto Protocol. Reviews from the gameplay vary from “not important” to “good”, but it was the ending that made everyone come together in the collective question “what the hell was that?”
Naturally, some spoilers will follow, so take this chance if you want to find out for yourself.
Spoiler alert
So, once you’re done fighting the rather creepy form of Dr. Caitlin Mahler, you can progress through an extended scene sequence if you get the secret ending. Fans are still trying to figure out what it all means, although the most accurate information comes down to the fact that the entire DLC was a hallucination, and the main character, whom people hoped to see alive, is dead.
“I didn’t like that they left the cliffhanger behind, making me glad that I could play Jacob again in the future, and they just killed him, and not just killed, but killed in the most stupid way,” says one of the fans.
Another says: “The Callisto Protocol story DLC was downright embarrassing. The same boring combat loop, lack of music for most of it, a highly predictable plot twist, two actual cutscenes, and a horrible ending that feels like abandoning IP. Sad to see how the game I’ve been waiting for ends like this.”
Feeling “abandoned” is a popular sentiment among fans, and many fear that The Callisto Protocol is over.
Even before the release of the DLC, its potential storytelling was the subject of ongoing controversy. Speaking to MP1st about The Final Transmission, Striking Distance boss Glen Scofield said that “we had a pretty strong vision in terms of storytelling, but we definitely took player feedback to heart.”
He continues, “I don’t want to reveal anything, but we’ve made some bold story decisions that I hope the community will love. I’m looking forward to player feedback when the game goes live.”
The Final Transmission is already out.
