To rejoice in the deconfinement while hoping for the respect of barrier gestures, this is the position of the Director General of the Nancy University Hospital, Bernard Dupont, guest of France Bleu Lorraine this Thursday, the day after the reopening of the terraces, places of culture and shopping. While the number of Covid patients treated in hospital is decreasing, the pressure on caregivers remains strong.
Release prohibited
Bernard Dupont who speaks of a relief for the reopening of shops and terraces but he calls for caution : “For this relief to last, we must respect the barrier measures. However, we have seen that with the joy and the cocktails, there was a little relaxation.”
A relaxation that our health system cannot afford according to Bernard Dupont. Because if the number of Covid patients has dropped back below the hundred people this Wednesday, hospital pressure is still very strong:
“It will not be enough to absorb new patients, because we have to absorb all the non-Covid patients who have not been taken care of. The number of patients in intensive care remains stable while the Covid patients are fewer. “
Gradual resumption of less urgent operations
Non-urgent surgical operations will resume very gradually because many staff are still busy in Covid sectors but also need manage the state of fatigue of caregivers, exhausted after more than a year of health crisis, according to Bernard Dupont:
“We must find a balance between resuming activity for patients who are waiting and the fact that we must give time off to our professionals so that they can breathe and hold on.”
