Four vaccination centers for mid-January

By mid-January, three other vaccination centers, still for nursing staff over 50, should open. In Châlons-en-Champagne, in Epernay and in Vitry-le-François. The places have not yet been decided.

The next steps will then concern people over the age of 75 living in independent residences or in senior residences. “In the department, this represents 4,300 beds. If the demand is the same as in nursing homes, namely 50% of people wishing to be vaccinated, we have a good idea of the number. We will then think about the vaccination of more than 75 years in the rest of the population. For the other categories of the population, it will probably be more this summer “, explains the prefect of Marne.

As for the proposals from local elected officials to provide equipment for mass vaccination, “we keep this in mind”, indicated the territorial delegate of Marne while stressing that the problem lies in the capacity of conservation of the vaccine. In fact, the Pfizer vaccine must be stored frozen at -80 degrees, which requires super-fridges. Once thawed, it can only be stored for five days at 2-8 degrees. The Moderna vaccine, which should arrive on the market in February, only requires storage at -20 degrees and may be stored for thirty days after thawing, which a priori will facilitate putting communities in the loop.
