Xiaomi overtook Apple and was the second largest smartphone seller in the world in the second quarter of this year. Huawei’s problems and growing sales in Africa and South America helped.
A year ago, the lists of the largest smartphone sellers in the world were opened by Samsung and Huawei, which is right behind him. The Chinese company dropped out of the top of the ranking by putting it on the American blacklistwhich, however, opened the way for another Chinese brand – Xiaomi.
Millions of smartphones each quarter
To achieve today’s position, the company Xiaomi had to sell 53.1 million devices, or 86.6 percent. more than a year ago – results from the list of the research company IDC. This allowed the Chinese company to control 16.9 percent. global market (increase by 6.6 pp. over the year). The leader of the ranking, i.e. South Korean Samsung, sold over 59 million devices in the second quarterwhich gives him control at 18.8 percent. market (decrease by 0.7 pp.).
Applewhich had to recognize the superiority of the Chinese, although it managed to increase its share in the global market from 13.6 percent. to 14.1 percent, sold slightly over 44 million devices in the second quarter.
Controversies
The Xiaomi brand was founded in 2011. Its founder is called “Chinese Steve Jobs” Lei Jun. At the same time, however, the Chinese company did not escape the controversy about spying on users and collecting a large amount of data.
