/ world today news/ Bus carriers are protesting today in Sofia and Varna. Between 100 and 150 buses will take part in the protest march of the National Bus Operators Association.
The assembly point of the participants in the protest procession will be at the Gorublyan inn, from where the buses will slowly pass through the central capital boulevards to reach their final destination – Sofia Central Bus Station.
The protest will be under the title: “No to the gray economy”, because this is the biggest problem for the industry, reported Galya Topalova from the National Association of Bus Carriers.
Buses will pass through the heart of the capital right at noon to reach the Central Bus Station, at the same time Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski will cut the ribbon on Sofia’s new railway station. The buses will leave from Gorublyane, through Tsarigradsko shose, along Tsar Osvoboditel boulevard, Dondukov boulevard, Maria Luiza boulevard and Lviv bridge to their end point.
Among the reasons for the carriers’ dissatisfaction are the disturbances in the industry and the lack of dialogue with the institutions. The main demands of the carriers are: implementation of effective measures to combat the gray sector in road transport, development of a new Republican transport scheme, uniform general conditions when awarding orders for public transport of passengers, development of a clear mechanism for compensations and subsidies, elimination of toll fees for buses operating on regular bus lines, changes in the Road Transport Act and its corresponding by-laws.
“Our goal is not the strikes, but a dialogue with the representatives of the authorities on the pressing problems related to the unregulated carriers, the restrictive law on road transport, toll fees,” Topalova said a few days ago.
