Brazilian second-tier Bahia said three of its players were injured in a bomb blast on a team bus. Informs the BBC.
The club claims the bomb exploded when a bus arrived at their home stadium in El Salvador for a regional cup match against Sampaio Correa. Goalkeeper Danilo Fernandes was taken to the hospital with facial injuries, and left defender Matheus Bahia and forward Marcelo Cirino also suffered injuries. Despite the incident, Bahia managed to triumph 2: 0.
“On arrival in Fonte Nova, a bomb exploded inside our team bus and the athletes were injured. The most worrying case is our goalkeeper Danil Fernandes, who was hit in the face by a shrapnel and was taken to the hospital, ” he added on social network club.
In a later tweet, the club said Fernandes was fine, but would spend the night in the hospital after suffering multiple injuries to his face, neck and lower limbs. After the decision to play the match, boss Bahie Guto Ferreira appreciated the dignity and professionalism of his players.
