The Bus en + informs festival-goers about sexual health

It’s 2pm on Friday 2nd August, and the doors of Sunska are finally opening at the Domaine de Nodris in Vertheuil. The first festival-goers, luggage in hand, are rushing towards the campsite. In a few hours, they’ll be swaying to the big names in rap and reggae. Once the party-goers’ tents are pitched, many of them venture onto the site. Many associations are there to keep them entertained while the musicians finish their soundchecks. Next to SOS Méditerranée, a huge bus catches the eye. It says in big pink letters: Le Bus en +.

HIV: an increase in risky behavior

Although the French consider themselves well informed about HIV, marking an encouraging progression in awareness, HIV continues to frighten 82% of them.

There are two vehicles of this type in the department: in the Médoc and in Haute Gironde. They have been crisscrossing the roads of Gironde since November 2023 to reach often isolated audiences. 400 people have already benefited from this departmental system. The Bus en + is invested with several missions such as child health, integration, service to the elderly or disabled, or assistance to women victims of violence. It also has a role in education and prevention of sexually transmitted infections. It is with this objective that the Bus en + is present at the Sunska Festival.

“To generate reflections”

Two nurses from the Maison départementale de la santé are present until 9 p.m. on the first two days. They provide information on sexual health and provide contraception, particularly emergency contraception. Isis and Romain manage Friday. They have planned a colored wheel to convey information in a fun way. “Not everyone comes for the same reasons, so we have a listening role,” explains the nurse. “With the Bus en +, we hope to generate reflections.” On Sunday, the system will also be present on the festival site, but this time to provide assistance with integration.

Even though the Bus en + closes at 9 p.m., the festival continues until the end of the night on Sunday, with names like The Wailers on Friday, IAM on Saturday and Burning Spear on Sunday.
