The gaming community discovered the reference used by Valve in an old forensic book
Launched in 2004, Half-life 2 has become a very famous and influential game, causing many of its NPCs and resources to be used in other projects. This is the case with template known as “Corpse01.mdl”which features a burned human face, used in sections of the game set in the sewers and in popular games such as Gary’s Mod.
Despite the popularity and game influencemany players never knew the model present in the game is the faithful reproduction of a real person. No Redditusers recently shared photos of a forensic book that served as the basis for the Valve create your own game.
The presence of the person with the burned face is probably a remnant of Half-Life 2’s troubled development process. Before the game hit stores, the developer even remade it multiple times and at one point created a version that would be much darker and scarier of what came to be known.
Valve has not commented on the matter.
The only element that differentiates the element present in the game from the one present in the forensic book is the fact that Valve removed one of the eyes that appear in the forensic book. By the way, in practice famous FPS players have been looking at a real person who has been dead for almost 20 years without knowing it.
A video posted by YouTuber Richter Overtime explains the story in more detail and states it even other models rejected by Valve may be inspired by real people🇧🇷 It also clarifies that, in the case of the photo that came into playthere are rumors that he may have relations with a person executed by the mafia.
Until now, The company did not comment on the situation. or if you intend to make changes to the game after discovery. However, it is already possible find on Steam community-made changes that help remove the controversial in-game model.
