Police officers opened fire on multiple occasions on the vehicle of burglars who were rushing at them by car in Rezé (Loire-Atlantique), during the night from Saturday to Sunday. The two suspects were injured and arrested. An official was also injured.

Two men were surprised by the police when they had just forced the portal of the Kiloutou store, located on avenue du Maréchal-de-Lattre-de-Tassigny in Rezé, around 3 a.m. Ocean Press. It was a local resident who sounded the alert by warning the police.

A police-rescue crew quickly arrived on the scene. Officials placed their screen-printed car in front of the suspects’ Peugeot Partner to prevent them from fleeing. Despite this, the thief at the wheel crashed into the police vehicle and one of the officers who had dismounted found himself trapped between the upright and the door. He opened fire, as did his two colleagues. Between 22 and 24 shots were fired, says the regional daily.

Placed in custody

The two accused – two cousins ​​aged 28 and 32 – were arrested and taken to the Nantes University Hospital. Their vital prognosis is not engaged. One, who suffered a tibia injury, was taken into hospital custody and then placed in a prison room. His accomplice was brought back to the police station where he was also taken into custody at midday on Sunday. The policeman who got stranded suffered a leg injury and must undergo examinations.

Observations were made on site for several hours by forensic identification technicians. The two other police officers who took part in this intervention were interviewed by investigators from the Territorial Directorate of the Judicial Police (DTPJ) of Nantes, in charge of an open investigation for “attempted homicide of persons with public authority ”.
