“Shoshoni” temporarily settled at the top of the table with five points. The newcomer from central Slovakia claimed his second loss of the year and with three points he is currently in eighth position.
The people of Žilina led from the 16th minute thanks to Samuel Gidi, the representative of African Ghana, and Patrik Myslovič increased the home team’s lead to 2:0 in the 24th minute. In the 31st minute, the referee first whistled a penalty for Žilina when one of the Bystrica players hit the ball with his hand in the penalty area. However, after checking with VAR, he changed his verdict.
In the 69th minute, Nigerian Taofig Jibril scored the third goal of the yellow-green team, and five minutes later the home team led 4-0 after a precise strike by Dávid Ďuriš. The guests managed to reduce the score only in the 79th minute thanks to David Depetris, who set the final result.
“From the first day of the week, we conscientiously prepared for Bystrica. We wanted to play fast, not hold the ball for too long and be active up front. At the same time, there was also a slight sense of nervousness and responsibility, as we had not won a competitive match for a long time.
The guys didn’t want to take risks and we weren’t that strong in the things we would like to be better at. However, we are still gradually developing. We are satisfied that we were effective, that we won and that this can be the right impetus for the team, but there is still a lot of work ahead of us. We need to be calmer and more sure of what we are doing,” stated Žilina coach Jaroslav Hynek on the official club website.
The Žilina captain is happy that his team ended a long streak without a win in the Fortuna League. However, he does not want to rest on his laurels: “There is always a stormy mood in the cabin after winning matches, but today it was felt that the burden of victory has finally fallen from the guys. They are happy, but at the same time tired. Short positive emotions are right, but personally I am already thinking about tomorrow. I will go see other matches, because we still have to work and make changes in the club to set everything right.”
Dukla coach Michal Ščasný considers the three-goal loss unfair: “It’s a very cruel result for us, but we have to take it as it is. We lost points, we lost 1:4, but we gave a nice performance. We have a lot of work to do, but we have a lot to build on. It would be worse if I he didn’t see good things from our side in the match. Žilina was more aggressive in the box today, they had more players and they were able to finish it well.
We also had a lot of situations in the penalty area in the second half, but unlike Žilina, we did not know how to take advantage of them. We will analyze something during the week, that is, where we made mistakes, but there were also positive things that we must continue to do in order to be successful.” he said according to the club’s official website.
On Saturday, the 3rd round of the Fortuna League 2022/2023 continues with two more matches – newcomer MFK Skalica will welcome AS Trenčín on its turf, and reigning champion ŠK Slovan Bratislava will host MFK Zemplín Michalovce.
