Sony’s acquisition of American game developer Bungie, which is behind well-known titles such as Halo and Destiny, is not about making its games exclusive on Playstation. Instead, the purpose of the deal is to accelerate the development of live service games across various online platforms. This is stated by Sony Interactive Entertainment’s CEO Jim Ryan to the site Gamesindustry.
Jim Ryan said the motive behind the Bungie deal is to move towards a multi-platform.
“We are starting to move towards a multi-platform, as you have seen. We have an aggressive roadmap around live service. And the opportunity to collaborate with, and especially learn from, the brilliant people at Bungie will significantly accelerate our journey, ”said Ryan.
The Sony boss was also able to announce that the company does not plan to stay with the Bungie purchase, but that more is waiting in the future.
“We should definitely expect more. We are by no means finished, we have a long way to go with Playstation “, said Ryan.
Sony pays $ 3.6 billion for Bungie. The deal is announced less than a month after Microsoft’s giant acquisition of Activision Blizzard for almost $ 69 billion.
