The Bundesliga: What Makes It So Attractive? Players Share Their Insights

What makes the Bundesliga so attractive?
Wegner: “The appeal of the Bundesliga is the nervousness you have at every competition. Not just about the decision of the team winning or losing, but also about your own duel. You don’t have 1 on 1 in other competitions and the audience, the fans, aren’t there. The excitement and cheering motivates you and gets the best out of you. That makes a huge difference and that’s what defines the Bundesliga competitions.”
Otto: “The first thing that appeals to me about the Bundesliga is the direct challenge of being able to compete with the best clubs from Germany (Bundesliga North) every weekend and not only perform well for myself, but also for the whole team. Shooting is an individual sport, but in the Bundesliga team shoots against team.”
Kramer: “It always excites me to shoot against the other teams, to want to win and then always hit the 10.”

Why are things going so well for your teams (again) this year?
Wegner: “Things are going so well this year because we are very strong in all positions. Even if I lose the point in first position, I can rely on my team. The team is of a very good standard and there is a good atmosphere. We have our two new additions to thank for this, among other things. Nele Stark and Hannah Göransson complement us very well and it’s a lot of fun with everyone.”
Otto: “We get along very well in the team, everyone is motivated and willing to give their best in the league. We have a strong team that is capable of achieving good results over several weekends and we always have the goal of going to the final in Neu-Ulm in mind.”
Kramer: “The team building and chemistry fit perfectly.”

Fabian, Kriftel has qualified early for the Bundesliga final. What are your expectations for the finale?
Otto: “I’ve been in the finals with Kriftel for the past two years, but I didn’t shoot in either Munich or Neu-Ulm. Even though we have gotten through the season very well so far, we cannot rest on our laurels with a view to the final. We expect very strong opponents who are also capable of achieving top results. So it will be very exciting and definitely a big challenge.”

Larissa, in 2023 you were the youngest team to gain final experience. Does your team benefit from this experience and have you become even more stable?
Wegner: “Last year was our first experience in the final and now we know what atmosphere we can expect. Otherwise it’s like any other Bundesliga competition – we do our best and see what comes of it. We will start as the youngest team again and this year we are in a stronger position. We’re really looking forward to it and have one big goal in mind: have fun.”

Matthias, you are in the first league for the first time and are currently the best of all participating shooters with an average of 9.87 rings. How do you explain your strength and that of your team?
Kramer: “I just feel comfortable in my team, which makes it easier to shoot 10s. With this support, my teammates know that they don’t have to take full risks when shooting. This means everyone can take their shots in peace and concentration.”

Christmas is just around the corner: What are your personal wishes regarding the Bundesliga?
Wegner: “My wishes are that our team stays as it is – motivated and ambitious.”
Otto: “I personally hope that we can finish the season the way we have so far and that we can confirm our performance in the final.”
Kramer: “I hope that we continue to be successful, that the team continues to work so well together and that we become champions.”
