The Buker Prize in Literature is awarded to South African writer Deimons Gelgats / Article

“Promise” is the author’s ninth novel, and he has twice been nominated for the Bucker Prize. The jury leader described him as a great master of form, able to combine an unusual story, a deep problem and the history of South Africa for the last 40 years.

The ceremony took place at the BBC Radio Theater in the British capital, London, and the winner expressed genuine joy and gratitude. He emphasized that this was a great year for African literature and that the award was also a recognition of the interesting and untold stories of the Black Continent. In addition to the title, the author will also receive 50 thousand pounds or about 59 thousand euros.
