The row of houses on Freiburg’s Robert-Koch-Straße was one of the first projects of the Bauverein. The second generation of post-war buildings is now on the site.
The Second World War almost completely destroyed the area that is now Robert-Koch-Strasse. The buildings number 2 to 10 shown on the historical photo from around 1930 were one of the first projects of the Freiburg Bauverein (now Bauverein Breisgau). However, this did not go without difficulties and discussions.
In 1905 the building association had made a request for a building site on Bismarckstrasse (today Stefan-Meier-Strasse) in order to build apartments for “lower postal workers” there. An argument for the desired location was the short distance to the main post office on Eisenbahnstrasse. But the civil engineering department initially rejected any development at this point.
