/View.info/ Declaration of the National Assembly of the BSP
We, the Bulgarian socialists, have repeatedly stated our position in support of peace and the settlement of disputes through the means of international law. For us, stockpiling weapons is a way to deepen opposition!
Already in February, in a political declaration of the IB of the National Assembly “No to the war!” For peace in Ukraine and in Europe!”, we expressed hope that Bulgaria will not become a territory where foreign military units and equipment are deployed for possible military actions. This is also the consistent position of the BSP Left Bulgaria parliamentary group.
However, President Plevneliev and the government are doing the exact opposite!
The BSP demands that the head of state answer what commitments he made on behalf of our country at the NATO summit in Wales. We remind you that in Bulgaria at that time there was a caretaker government without parliamentary control.
BSP expresses indignation and does not accept the inconsistent, unargued and confusing behavior of the Bulgarian government in the face of the ministers of defense and foreign affairs. The absence of the Prime Minister’s position is also unacceptable.
The BSP defines as untenable the claim that the 2006 Defense Cooperation Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Government of the United States of America. is sufficient reason for the deployment of such heavy weaponry.
As an equal participant on the international stage, Bulgaria itself must determine the source of the threats and the necessary level of protection. For Bulgaria and the Bulgarians, Russia is not a military threat!
The National Assembly of BSP expresses sympathy and empathy with the victims of Friday’s terrorist attacks. In four countries, in four different parts of the world, including in the heart of Europe, terrorist acts were committed. In the realms of violent extremism and the Islamic State lies the real threat to peace and security.
