The brutal audience crisis that Mediaset has been experiencing since it began broadcasting Rocío Carrasco’s series in March 2021 did not take long to change the television landscape in Spain. Telecinco bet everything on Rociito, the then muse of trash television, automatically firing Antonio David Flores, his ex, as well as many other regular collaborators who were closer to AD. The network became a “with me or against me” and few were able to express their opinion freely. Kiko Matamoros in Sálvame and some members of ‘The Ana Rosa Program’ were one of the few who could afford it.
The special that Carlota Corredera hosted was the most watched in its first program and even in the second, but the audience began to turn its back on it both because of the manipulated and radicalized content and because of the attitude of the presenter. As usually happens on Telecinco, any trash that flies over in one program, wanders through the rest. Come on, Sálvame was an extension of the misnamed ‘docuseries’. The whole day they talked about the same thing, accusing Antonio David and his daughter of mistreatment, as well as censoring a multitude of journalists who demonstrated versions contrary to the official one of the network and even pointing out the justice system as sexist. Let us remember for example when from the set they defended the lies or inaccuracies of Rocío Carrasco denied by a ‘judicial truth’. Dangerous arguments from Corredera and company that were falling under their own weight.
All this would have been a simple blip if it had not been for the fact that the rest of the programs and series that the network promoted turned out to be a failure. ‘Sálvame’ was reduced at the beginning and at the end, filling the gap with spaces that did not fix the drop in share. Antena 3 was eating Telecinco’s toast, until then untouchable except in the ‘El Hormiguero’ and ‘Pasapalabra’ strip. Everything turned around. So much so that it was decided to completely cancel ‘Sálvame’, as well as ‘Deluxe’, betting on programs like ’25 Words’ or ‘Chinese Tales’, both unsuccessful and already cancelled. Series like ‘Gavilanes’ or ‘Café con aroma de mujer’ were costly mistakes.
To top off the bad decisions, Ana Rosa was asked to abandon the mornings in which she reigned supreme to enter the dangerous stretch of the afternoon. The truth is that, without it, Telecinco has begun to lose ground in the morning, while it is having a hard time regaining nap time. For whatever reason.
‘Every man for himself’
Well, did anyone think that Sálvame’s collaborators were going to be unemployed for a long time? The sporadic ones or small characters are clearly not of interest nor do they attract an audience, but the veterans were not going to lack work. Several left for other heart programs on the network, while others signed directly for the competition. Of course, those in the media received an offer that they could not refuse. It was a return to ‘Sálvame’, but this time with the platform Netflix and under the name ‘Every man for himself’.
Members of ‘Sálvame’ in Miami and Mexico
In principle there will be two batches. The first installment will be released on November 10, while the second is scheduled for early 2024. The first three episodes of ‘Sálvese que puede’ will take place in Miami and will show the journey of Belén Esteban, Terelu Campos, Kiko Matamoros, Lydia Lozano, Chelo García Cortés, Víctor Sandoval, María Patiño and Kiko Hernández to look for a new job. This last one cutting off Shakira for example. The remaining three chapters will take place in Mexico.
