The Fundación Oso Pardo rules out that there is an overpopulation of bears in the Laciana area, as reported by some presidents of neighborhood councils in the area.
It is true, says the spokesman of the entity, Guillermo Palomero that the bear has abandoned its condition of critical extinction, but the number of specimens is still far from leaving the danger and, less in the area of influence of Laciana and Cangas de Narcea where a breeding area with ample natural resources is located
As for the fear that attacks proliferate and become common, Palomero assures that it would be a completely abnormal situation. What’s more, there is no data that verifies that the dead cow in Villar was the product of an attack by a bear that, yes, may have fed on it. In fact, attacks on adult animals are highly rare.
In any case, the foundation believes that this specimen will have the appropriate follow-up, as is customary, by the bear patrol in the area that will be in charge of controlling the movements and behaviors of the specimens.
