The brother of the Latvian national team defender leaves the VHL club

Latvian hockey player Edgars Kulda has left the Supreme Hockey League (VHL) team in Novokuznetsk “Metallurg”, it is reported on the tournament website.

Last season, the striker scored eight goals and made eight assists in 41 main tournament games, while he scored two goals and five assists in 14 play-off matches. “Metallurg” was the Avangard farm club of the Continental Hockey League (KHL) unit in Omsk, it was trained by a Latvian specialist, two-time VHL champion Leonīds Tambijevs, who was suspended during the season.

Before that Kulda 2019/2020. played in another VHL team in Karaganda “Saryarka”, which was also coached by Tambiev. In the ranks of the Kazakh team, the attacker scored 20 (12 + 8) points in 37 main tournament fights, as well as three (2 + 1) points in six playoff matches.

Previously, the striker also played for the Czech club “PSG Berani” in Zlín, but from 2015 to 2018 he represented Riga “Dinamo”, scoring eight goals and making nine assists in 109 KHL main tournament matches. Kulda’s CV is also in the three-season Western Hockey League (WHL) club Edmonton’s Oil Kings. He has 49 goals and 58 assists in 177 main tournaments, but 12 goals and 26 assists in 48 play-off matches.

In 2016, Kulda represented the Latvian national team at the World Championships. His older brother Artūrs already participated in seven World Championships, including in the 2021 tournament in Riga.
