On Wednesday, December 14, the town hall of Villeurbanne presented its projects and budget for 2023. The district of Les Brosses has been selected to become a new “zero territory for long-term unemployed”.

This is an experiment conducted since 2017 in France. The objective, to demonstrate that the mobilization of an entire territory can help to offer sustainable employment to all those who wish to do so. The principle is to create a company to offer permanent and part-time work to all the long-term unemployed. All volunteer candidates are hired. As of 2020, there were ten experimental territories.

Cédric Van Styvendael, mayor of Villeurbanne says he is grateful “to the enabling fund for the trust granted to Villeurbanne, which is to date the only city with Paris, to have two recognized territories.“Indeed, since 2017, the Saint-Jean district in Villeurbanne has also been identified as a “zero long-term unemployed territory”.

Cedric Van Styvendael: “Villeurbanne, is the only city with Paris, to have two authorized territories.

The brush project

The unemployment rate in Brushes district reached 7.1% per 4,480 inhabitants. About 500 people have been out of work for more than a year“, announces the town hall, which intends to offer sustainable employment to more than 300 people in five years.

The Company for Employment Purposes (EBE) Bross’up it will therefore see the light in the spring of 2023. It aims to develop in the years to come, but in stages. Several projects will then be launched. First, a third place of solidarity in the Saint-André residence. Then a solidarity laundry, a company concierge, a sewing workshop, bicycle repair, furniture repair and recycling. Another project is to launch a solidarity service to help the elderly or people with reduced mobility.

A set of ideas covering a broad spectrum of skills, thus offering a wide variety of jobs for people looking to integrate into the system.
