The British royal family shared new images of the queen on Friday, on the birthday of Elizabeth. The photo shows the deceased head of state with several of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The photo was taken by Kate Middleton, Prince William’s wife. “Today would have been her 97th birthday,” the caption reads.

Elizabeth passed away on September 8 last year. Since then, her son Charles has been King of the United Kingdom. His official coronation will take place next month, on Saturday 6 May. Elizabeth sat on the throne for seventy years.
