The British man charged with murder does not plead guilty

The British citizen in his 20s, who is charged with murder or complicity in the murder of a 28-year-old man from Haugesund night to the first New Year’s day, has tonight been interrogated at the police station in Stavanger.

The Norwegian citizen in his 20s, who is charged with murder or for complicity in murder, is scheduled to be questioned on Sunday morning.

– He did not want to explain himself without a defender. The defender is only available tomorrow, says police attorney Fredrik Martin Soma to Dagbladet.

The police will also decide whether they want custody of the two during Sunday.

Arrested after witness observations

It was at 01.28 on the night before New Year’s Day that the police were notified that a man had been stabbed in Haugesund.

Lawyer Benedicte Storhaug has been appointed as assistance lawyer for the victim’s relatives. She informs Dagbladet that she has been in contact with the relatives, and arranged a meeting with them on Sunday.

Deceased autopsied

The interrogated British citizen refuses to have knowledge of the deceased. The police currently have no information that the two accused and the deceased know each other. This is something they are now investigating, the police attorney states.

The deceased 28-year-old lived in Haugesund. He is autopsied today.

– We can not go out with information regarding the autopsy at this time, Soma says.

The police have set up a tip reception in the case.

– If anyone has information in the case, they can report this to the police on 02800. We are particularly interested in getting in touch with people who have reacted to something at Presthaugvegen last night or tonight until today until the police arrived at the scene around 01.30, says Soma.

Police are still working on technical investigations at a parking lot in the area. Soma does not currently wish to comment on what connection the deceased has to the crime scene.
