MADRID, 12 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The British Health Minister, Sajid Javid, has finally ruled out the project that would require presenting a certificate of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to access large events and discos, despite the fact that the Government planned to start applying it in England this same month.
“We should not do things just because or because others do it,” explained Javid, during an interview on the BBC that was preceded by criticism from both the nightlife sector and some conservative deputies who questioned the effectiveness of this measure.
The minister has been opposed to “telling the agent to show papers or do something that is a day-to-day activity”, although he has also clarified that the introduction of the COVID passport continues to be “a potential option” if the situation worsens in the future.
The Johnson government also does not contemplate a new confinement, although Javid has acknowledged that it would be “irresponsible” to discard it completely, and plans in the future to lift the obligation to present a negative test for those who return from certain countries, in such a way that it remains alone for “totally necessary” cases.
The prime minister is scheduled to announce this Monday the official plans in relation to booster doses for vaccines and, a day later, a roadmap with contingency measures in case hospital pressure rises with the arrival of winter.
