The motive behind murder Haitian President Jovenel Moise starting to see light. A man arrested by Haiti Police is said to have had “political goals” in recruiting a group of gunmen who killed President Jovenel Moise last week.
As reported by AFP and the Associated Press, Monday (12/7/2021), a Haitian citizen is suspected of working with the main mastermind behind the still mysterious Moise murder. Haitian Police Chief, Leon Charles, identified the arrested Haitian man as Christian Emmanuel Sanon (63) who is said to live in Florida, United States (US). Sanon is said to have arrived in Haiti in June on a private jet, accompanied by a number of Colombians.
“This is an individual who entered Haiti on a private plane with political purposes,” Charles said at a press conference on Sunday (11/7) local time.
Charles mentioned that Sanon was suspected of working with the main mastermind and the executioners of Moise’s murder. But he did not mention further about the alleged mastermind behind this murder.
Charles also reveals that the gunmen were originally tasked with capturing Moise, but that the end goal changed. Moise’s assassination plot was conceived from within Haiti.
“Their mission changed,” said Charles. “A total of 22 other individuals entered Haiti,” he added.
Charles said that a total of 26 Colombians were suspected of being involved in Moise’s murder. Around 18 of them have been arrested along with three Haitians. He added that three suspects were killed and five other suspects were still at large.
“They are dangerous individuals. I’m talking about commando, special command,” he said.
