“The Bright and Fascinating Star Vega: Learn Its History and Importance”

Friday, 12 May 2023 – 16:02 WIB

LIVE Techno – Vega is a bright star located just 25 light years from Earth, visible in the summer sky of the Northern Hemisphere. This star is part of the constellation Lyra.

Together with the stars Deneb and Altair, Vega forms an asterism known as the Summer Triangle, according to the Space page, Friday, May 12, 2023.

The star is only about 450 million years old, which makes it younger than our solar system which is 4.6 billion years old. The study of Vega helps astronomers learn more about the solar system, which is in its early stages of formation.

As the Earth’s axis wobbles, our perception of north gradually shifts to a different star over a 26,000 year cycle. Vega is the North Star thousands of years old and will regain that status in about 12,000 years.

Vega is almost directly overhead in the northern mid-latitudes on a midsummer night. The star sinks below the horizon for only 7 hours a day and can be seen every night throughout the year.

Further south, Vega lies below the horizon for a longer time, but over Alaska, northern Canada, and most of Europe, it never sets.

Because Vega’s blue-white light is so bright—the star has an apparent magnitude of 0.03—it was prominent in ancient cultures from China to Polynesia to Hinduism. The name Vega comes from the Arabic word ‘waqi’ which means to fall or dip.
