The Bridge of Spies really existed in Berlin, it connected the East to the West, and today it is called the Glienicke Bridge. It was the scene of prisoner exchanges between the American and East German secret services. This is a story set in the years of the Cold War. James Donovan is a brilliant Brooklyn attorney who gets involved by the CIA in a delicate and almost impossible mission: to negotiate the release of an American U-2 pilot, Francis Gary Powers, who has been taken prisoner.
Oscar winner Steven Spielberg returns to the control room three years after “Lincoln” (2013) and to collaborate with Tom Hanks for the fourth time after “Saving Private Ryan” (1998), “Try to Catch Me” (2002) and “The Terminal” (2004), to bring thriller set during the Cold War and inspired by real events to the big screen. Writers of the screenplay Matt Charman (“French Suite” 2014) and the brothers Ethan and Joe Coen, former screenwriters of the recent “Unbroken” (2015) and their “About Davis” (2013), who tell the story of a man who he risked everything for his country. In the cast also Mark Rylance (“Wolf Hall”), Oscar as supporting actor for this role, Scott Shepherd, who we remember in “Never so close” (2014) and “Side Effects” (2013), the Oscar nominee of the 2008 for “Gone Baby Gone” Amy Ryan, who we also remember in “Birdman or (The unpredictable virtue of ignorance9” (2014) and “Devil’s Knot – Until proven otherwise” (2014), Sebastian Koch, who we remember in the role by Otto Düring in the TV series “Homeland: Spy Hunt” (2015) and in the films “Die Hard – A Good Day to Die” (2013) and “Unknown – Without Identity” (2011), and the Oscar nominee in 2005 for “The Aviator” Alan Alda, also recently seen in the TV series “The Blacklist” (2013-2014). The soundtrack will be composed by John Williams in his 27th collaboration with Steven Spielberg.
