“The Bremen Hole Raises Record Breaking Funds for Charity”

Anyone who throws coins into the gully next to the citizenship hears meowing or barking. There can also be a rooster crow or a loud “Ia” – the lute of the Bremen Town Musicians.

An extraordinary donation box is hidden behind this gully and the noise. The Bremer Loch collects money for the Wilhelm-Kaisen-Bürgerhilfe, which uses it to support projects for the people of the city.

25,000 euros raised

Now the Bremen hole has been emptied again. Within a year, 24,259.97 euros have been donated. “That’s a new record,” says the President of the Parliament, Frank Imhoff, who helped open the gully. It’s the fourth time he’s done it. “Now I know how to do it,” he laughs. The high sum shows that Bremer help each other.

“The Bremen hole is unique. We only have something like that here,” says the President of the City Council. That’s why he likes to go there with visitors. “My office is directly under the Bremer Loch, so I can always hear when something is thrown in,” he says.

money to charity

This year the money goes to Caritas. “We will primarily support the station mission with this,” says Horst Neugebauer from Caritas. The Bremen Train Station Mission accompanies people in and around the train station who are looking for help. In addition to providing transfer assistance for travelers, the Bahnhofsmission is currently also providing guidance on the various support systems for people in precarious situations.
The Bremen Train Station Mission is currently being contacted by 40 to 50 people a day.

“We will use the money to train more volunteers and also to push the expansion of the station mission,” emphasizes Neugebauer.
