Dubai – WAM
Nature is approaching a critical point where reversing the damage caused by climate change will become impossible, Brazilian Culture Minister Margaret Menezes has warned.
In statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) during Copo28, the Minister stressed the need to utilize cultural tools to raise awareness and inspire action, expressing her belief that the power of culture lies in its ability to communicate with people on an emotional level.
She added, “I believe that we can use everything within the scope of culture, including visual and audio media and cinema. We have to take advantage of them at this moment.” Culture is formed by people. It is a living being. “That’s why culture is a great tool for accessing people’s emotions.”
Menezes praised the UAE’s leadership in combating climate change, and said: “The UAE has demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability and climate change… It is a pioneering country that has also sought a joint approach with Brazil. I believe we can benefit from some important bilateral actions in The field of culture.
In light of Brazil hosting COP30 in the city of Belem, Pará state, the Brazilian Minister of Culture hopes to benefit from the initiatives launched during COP28 in Dubai. It calls, for example, for intensifying debate on social inequality alongside discussions on the future of the planet’s climate, with a particular focus on enhancing women’s presence in decision-making forums.
“Within the work of the Ministry of Culture, we seek to create specific projects to promote Afro-Brazilian culture, culture as a whole, and indigenous culture, and to give adequate representation to these people,” Menezes said. I believe that true balance involves activating the role of women in leadership positions. “It is cooperation and coexistence through which the female experience can contribute significantly to the moment of reflection that the world needs.”
The Brazilian Minister aspires to achieve more, as she seeks to engage indigenous peoples, Africans, the diaspora and youth to promote COP30 in Brazilian territory.
She concluded by saying: “Brazil is a leader in sustainable fuels and green fuels. We have the experiences of indigenous peoples and I think there is a lot to draw from at this moment. There are young people, new generations, who need our help.”
