The Boys of August want better pensions and go to Congress – La Discusión

This was reported by the group through its president, who asked the authorities present to put aside political quarrels and approve the Pension Reform. The activity also crowned this year’s queen, María Riquelme.

Receiving a decent pension for everything delivered to society was one of the requests made by the president of the Los Muchachos de Agosto Association, Juan Canales, before the more than 1,300 people who came to the Municipal Theater to celebrate that “they passed August”.

Canales’s speech, delivered on the stage of the Theater, contained other aspects because he also asked to take the group’s older adults to the National Congress in Valparaíso. “We presented a project to the Regional Government because there are many grandparents who don’t know and we hope it goes well for us,” she said.

“As a group we had the opportunity to be present at the meeting with the Minister of Finance Mario Marcel and the Minister of Labor Jeannette Jara, about the pensions that have given us so much trouble, so that we have a dignified readjustment to what we have delivered to Chilean society. I hope that the congressmen agree so that we do not suffer more. Retirement comes from the word jubilation, which is to feel happy. When an older adult retires, he arrives at his house and instead of being happy he worries about what he will do now that he receives half. In Chile, retiring is torture. We want them to put their hands on their hearts and agree to give us a decent pension, ”he said while he was widely applauded by his peers.

At the end and consulted by the press, Canales added: “we learned about the Pension Reform in its entirety, we asked all the pertinent questions and it has objections, but they are minor. All that political show that is done in Congress only goes against us, the elderly. And I speak to all sectors in a transversal way”.

Finally, Canales asked that the authorities give Los Muchachos de Agosto a room at the Herminda Martín hospital once the units move to the new facility.

reactions

Regarding the words of the president of Los Muchachos de Agosto, deputy Frank Sauerbaum specified that with the end of the health alert, steps could be taken to take the elderly from the city to Valparaíso.

For his part, the presidential delegate, Gabriel Pradenas, said that “there are several powerful things that were pointed out in the activity. The first is the issue of pensions. Another has to do with the tax agreement to make improvements in pensions today and not postpone them for those who today have starvation pensions. They also demand a physical location and plan a visit to Congress. I hope that the parliamentarians present in the Theater will echo the words of the elderly, to advance the well-being of the people ”.

Senator Gustavo Sanhueza said that “as a society we have an outstanding debt not only in pensions, but also in dignity and respect for them. Being very realistic, the creation of the PGU is an advance from the previous government that allowed the basic solidarity pension to be raised, which today is close to the basic basket. The big discussion is how this system is sustained and that revolves around 6 percent. We have suggested to the Government to separate the projects, readjust the PGU now and continue discussing the other, where there are ideological issues that have to do with how a social security system is financed. We want to put other elements on the table, such as part of this 6 percent going to finance the Universal Crib Room.”

Call

Mayor Camilo Benavente led this Friday the hugs that older adults gave each other after noon and along with greeting, valued the attendance of older adults to the event at the Municipal Theater, a building that sheltered them from the cold and rain that threatened to arrive for much of the morning. In the place, the coronation of the kings of this year, María Riquelme and Romualdo Parada, also took place, and various artists performed on stage. “We are very happy with the call. We have to remember that it is an activity that was born in Chillán and that today is being carried out in other cities of the country. This makes us look to the future and value everything that our older adults have given us throughout their lives,” said Mayor Benavente.
