American actor and director George Clooney faced many challenges while directing the sports drama film “The Boys in the Boat”, especially the outbreak of Corona on the filming site, and his infection with the virus as well.
In a press conference organized by the American magazine “People” in preparation for the film’s start in cinemas on Christmas, Clooney (62 years old) revealed that he was very ill, so he quarantined himself but continued working.
He recalled that, with the help of his producing partner, Grant Heslov, from the filming site, and the use of his own iPad from his “isolation room,” he managed the directing task with difficulty, for a week, as infections began to spread among the work team, of whom only the film’s Irish hero, Callum Turner, survived.
Turner commented that he was shocked by the collapse of everyone around him, and the injuries continued until he and producer Grant Heslov survived the injuries, even though they were committed people, but not strongly. Then filming of the film stopped permanently due to the global spread of the pandemic, and was completed in mid-2022.
When Turner considered that directing Clooney via the iPad was very funny, especially when he was nervous or happy, Clooney jokingly responded that directing via the iPad is something entertaining and that he will continue to do it, whenever he gets the opportunity.
George believed that the mass infections resulted from a group dinner for the main work team in London, in addition to the participating sports team, after which it became clear that 17 out of 18 who were present were infected and were quarantined and then vaccinated.
