The high-speed rail in Granada is the story of a botch, which grows for days. Due to the lack of trains that connect with this city and the absence of significant investments for next year in the railway infrastructures of the province, the Occasional problems that are causing the second daily AVE to travel from Antequera together with the convoy from Malaga.
The The coupling of the two trains is causing some incidents, with delays of up to half an hour (also suffered by travelers from Malaga); and with users trapped a few minutes on the platform without drivers being able to open the doors.
As some people who have made the trip at this time have told Radio Granada (departure from Granada at 3:46 p.m.), the train has suffered delays of up to half an hour on its way to Madrid. A path where a similar time is already lost due to the sloppy Loja, where the AVE line disappears and the train must travel along a conventional route from the 19th century at a lower speed than the old trains did.
Radio Granada already reported at the beginning of the month that the recovery of the second AVE to Madrid, suspended since the beginning of the pandemic, included a surprise: the trains from Granada would join those from Malaga in Antequera to form a single convoy to Madrid. Since the new train started on October 15, there have already been several incidents attributable to the difficulties of coupling the trains.
In some cases, travelers have arrived in Madrid half an hour late due to the accumulated waiting time at the Antequera-Santa Ana station to carry out the maneuver. This has meant that the driver who had traveled with the train from Granada could not access the convoy from Madrid that arrives at Santa Ana at that time. Travelers have had to wait inside the train, without anyone there even to open the doors of the car. The delay of the outward train, therefore, has also delayed the return train, since it is the same driver who brings it to Granada.
On another occasion, unofficial Renfe sources consulted by this newsroom confirm the fact that you had an extra driver on the trip allowed two trains to travel to Madrid instead of one, after problems were detected: Malaga and Granada, which could not be coupled.
This problem persists and it is not ruled out that it may recur in the next few days. To this is added that it is not yet planned to recover the third AVE to Madrid, with which Granada had before the pandemic; the fourth AVANT to Seville; the fourth regional to Almería; nor the three AVANT trains to Malaga.
The launch of the The connection with Malaga is delayed as the service tests between the cities of Malaga and Granada have been delayed with the model 114 trains ‘parked’ in Granada. Everything indicates that in the coming weeks, these vehicles will be transferred to other parts of the country to carry out the imminent service with Malaga (at least one connection) with older trains, with which some tests have already been carried out on the route between Both cities.
