The Boston Athletic Association (BAA) has announced that in the 125th Boston Marathon scheduled for Monday October 11, 2021 there will be a total of 20,000 participants.
Registration for the face-to-face race will take place from Tuesday 20 to Friday 23 April. “The BAA has been working closely with our local, city and state partners to establish an appropriate competitor size that will allow for social distancing throughout the course, especially at the beginning and end,” said Tom Grilk, President and CEO from BAA “In addition to a smaller field than in previous years, we will have important additional protocols to ensure public and participant health. We are committed to making the world’s oldest annual marathon as safe as possible in October. “
The qualifying window for the 2021 Boston Marathon opened on September 15, 2018. Any valid qualifying times running after that date can be used to submit a registration request for the Boston Marathon. Qualifying times must be achieved in USATF, AIMS, or equivalent overseas certified races; Virtual Marathon times cannot be used for Boston Marathon qualification purposes. Achieving a qualifying time does not guarantee acceptance of participation in the Boston Marathon.
