The United States’ borders with Mexico and Canada will remain closed for non-essential travel until February 21, the Department of Homeland Security announced this week.
Land borders have largely been closed since March, when the coronavirus pandemic began. Air traffic between the countries is still allowed, but dropped significantly due to the virus. For example, those traveling to Canada must be quarantined for 14 days upon arrival and must travel for an essential purpose.
Air travel between the United States and Mexico continues with more minimal disruption.
Borders remain open for essential purposes, such as trade and freight transport.
