The hospital was condemned for the death of a patient support too late. She was 48 years old and suffered from a rare inflammatory syndrome.
The establishment is obliged to pay compensation to the family of the victim, who died in 2018. She would have waited more than ten hours before being taken to the intensive care unit. The patient had a first malaise and the doctors had detected a pneumopathy and an antibiotic treatment had been prescribed to her.
On March 8, his condition gets worse with fever and low blood pressure. She is admitted to the hospital again and the SAMU is alerted to 12h30 to transfer it to another university hospital. According to France Info,“The emergency medical team arrived at 8:30 p.m., before transferring her to intensive care where she died two days later from acute respiratory distress syndrome.”
The court states that the patient’s chances of survival were from 50% because of the delay in treatment and condemned the CHU to pay 47 378 euros to the victim’s family. The medical staff defended themselves and specified that the patient was “in accordance with the rules of the art.”
