The Bordeaux-Toulouse high-speed line offers “absolutely incredible attractiveness” for Montauban

This is the other big winner of the future Bordeaux-Toulouse LGV. Montauban will be less than three hours from Paris by train thanks to the construction of the high-speed line. The Prime Minister announced this week that the state is providing support of 4.1 billion euros for this long-awaited project.

“A fundamental project”

For Thierry Deville, the president of the agglomeration of Grand Montauban, the arrival of the LGV will to transform the capital of Tarn-et-Garonne. “It is a fundamental project which will bring us to a crossroads with Montauban at 2h50 from Paris, a little less than an hour from Bordeaux, and only 10 minutes from Toulouse, which completely redraws the cards in terms of economy, in terms of population density “ explains the elected official who believes that “the territory thus recovers an absolutely incredible attractiveness”.

“To settle between Toulouse and Montauban, there will be no more photos.”

According to Thierry Deville, the LGV will attract new arrivals “who will come and live with us, because to settle between Toulouse and Montauban, there will be no more photos”. The lawyer, regional adviser to the Republicans, who succeeded Brigitte Barèges at the head of Grand Montauban, affirms that it will be possible to compete with the Pink City.

“What is a person looking for who wants to settle in a city? Culture, infrastructure, mobility, life, identity, and that is precisely what Montauban will be able to offer once the LGV is completed.

When, for example, Avignon (Vaucluse) benefited from the high-speed line, there was a change in its environment. I believe it will be identical to Montauban which has a real history “ concludes Thierry Deville with enthusiasm. Work on the LGV is due to start in 2024 for commissioning in 2030.

Funding completed by fall 2021 at the latest

As for the financing, it will be completed no later than the fall of 2021, according to Carole Delga, the president of the Occitanie region. The State will therefore provide 4.1 billion euros, or half the cost of the site. So there remain another four billion, financed by local authorities and Europe, which should provide 20%.
