The Bontang Health Office urges the public to be aware of the spread of dengue fever

TIMESINDONESIA, BONTANG – Bontang Health Office, East Kalimantan urges the public to be aware of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DBD) during the pandemic. If you are not careful, the risk is very big.

This was conveyed by the Head of Bontang Health Office, Dr. Bahauddin to TIMES Indonesia, Thursday (11/18/2020). He revealed, if there is an indication of dengue fever then immediately go to a health facility (faskes).

“It’s just a little bit late, while in the Covid era, many are afraid to go to health facilities for fear of being diagnosed,” he said.

It is known that DHF is a disease caused by the dengue virus which is transmitted to humans through the bites of the Aedes Aegypti and Aedes Albocpictus mosquitoes.

In Indonesia, it is an endemic area with the distribution throughout the country. Symptoms that will appear are marked by sudden fever, headache, back pain in the eyeballs, nausea and bleeding manifestations such as nosebleeds or bleeding gums as well as redness on the surface of the body in the sufferer.

Director of Prevention and Control of Vector and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi said, dengue cases in Indonesia until July reached 71,633, as released by the Ministry of Health. Even so, the number of cases and deaths this year is still relatively low when compared to 2019 with a higher number of cases, namely 112,954.

“Before it’s too late, let’s raise awareness of dengue fever, or similar diseases, especially now during the pandemic,” said Bahauddin.

Bahauddin suggested to identify dengue fever further to take prevention.

“Recognize the symptoms or signs of early and continued DHF and get help immediately. Also know the cycle of Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes, how to breed Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes, forming Jumantik (larva observers) which has been proven successful in reducing the number of dengue cases, and preventing dengue transmission by breaking the chain of transmission, “he said.
