The bombshell: Kinnevik sells Tele2 – Telekom today

The buyer will be Freya Investissement, a company jointly controlled by the French telecom giant Iliad and Xavier Niels NJJ Holding. Xavier Niel is chairman and founder of Iliad.

– The Iliad group and the Tele2 group have a lot in common. We both believe in the power of innovation and the importance of an entrepreneurial spirit. Our business sector in Europe is very demanding. We therefore have great respect for what Tele2’s shareholders, management and team have achieved, and we are very pleased that Kinnevik has chosen Freya as Tele2’s new major shareholder. We look forward to contributing to the next chapter in Tele2’s growth journey, says Thomas Reynaud, CEO of Iliad and board member of Freya Investissement, in a comment in today’s press release.

Kinnevik is also positive about the deal. The investment company is selling its ownership for SEK 13 billion.

– Through the transaction, Tele2 gets a new leading shareholder in the combination of iliad and NJJ with a long track record in the European telecoms sector as an early pioneer in France and as a large-scale company builder in several European markets. Tele2 was founded by Jan Stenbeck in the early 1980s and its strong value creation has been fundamental to the creation of today’s Kinnevik, and has driven both Kinnevik’s historic dividend flow to shareholders and the strategic transformation into a leading European growth investor, for which we are proud and grateful , comments Georgi Ganev, CEO at Kinnevik, on the deal.
