A woman died Thursday at Chicago airport (United States) and her body was found trapped in the machinery of a baggage claim belt, authorities reported to local media.

The Chicago Fire Department received a call around 8 a.m. that a woman was trapped in the machinery, and the Police Department later confirmed that she had been found dead, NBC reports.

Police have cordoned off the area as a “crime scene” and are investigating the incident, which took place at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport Terminal 5, which serves international flights.

According to ABC, the woman was 57 years old, was not part of the airport’s staff and is shown on security videos “entering an unoccupied restricted area at 2:27 a.m.,” according to police.

The Cook County coroner’s office, where Chicago is located, will perform an autopsy on Friday to determine the cause of death, CBS reports.

According to The GuardianThe police communications office initially said the woman was discovered at 2:27 a.m., “creating confusion as to why firefighters and paramedics did not arrive until more than five hours later.”

However, after checking with the police department about the timing, Larry Langford, a spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department, said he was informed that surveillance footage shows the woman entering the baggage room at 2:27 a.m.

“The communications office issued a second statement Thursday afternoon saying that surveillance video shows the woman entering the room at 2:27 a.m. She was actually discovered at 7:30 a.m., prompting a 911 call,” it clarified.

The images, according to the British media, only show the woman walking, but what happened to her.

“Nathaniel Blackman, a police spokesman, clarified during a telephone interview with the Associated Press that no one was watching the surveillance cameras in real time and that investigators reviewed the images after the woman’s body was discovered,” he added. The Guardian.
