A group of scientists from the University of California, San Francisco has published a paper on the impact of the coronavirus COVID-19 on the defenses of the human body. According to research, coronavirus triggers a massive immune response that interferes with the body’s fight against infection.
In addition, a new type of coronavirus is spreading throughout the body. This paints the clinical picture of the disease with a variety of symptoms, according to a study published on the portal. MedicalXpress.
Unusual about COVID-19 is that a person’s immune response, oddly enough, can complicate the development of the disease.
“Like any pathogen, SARS-CoV-2 causes an immune attack against itself literally a few minutes after the virus enters the body,” says the project leader, professor of experimental pathology Max Krammel.
As a result, some patients are prevented from coping with the disease by their own strong immunity. In such patients, the lungs can get damaged not only due to the spread of the virus, but also due to their attack by the body’s defenses.
With the beginning of the spread of COVID-19, doctors have recognized the presence of a “triplet” of symptoms that worsen as the disease progresses: fever, cough and respiratory distress.
Now, the researchers put in the first place the inadequate response of the human immune system to the invasion of the virus.
Scientists say the new coronavirus is not the most aggressive. Its SARS-CoV-2 strain is less dangerous than its predecessor SARS, which was discovered in 2002, but multiplies faster.
