This will be the third match between Boca and River this year. The first of them was in the interzonal of the League Cup, corresponding to the seventh round. On that occasion, the Superclásico was played at the Monumental on Sunday, February 25 and ended 1-1. Pablo Solari opened the scoring for the home team four minutes into the second half. Cristian Medina equalized at 25 minutes into the second period.
The second duel between these teams corresponded to the quarter-finals of the same competition. It was played on a neutral pitch, at the Mario Alberto Kempes in Córdoba and with both sides. That Sunday, April 21 of this year, Diego Martínez’s team defeated the team that at that time was managed by Martín Demichelis 3-2. Miguel Borja made it 1-0 at 10 minutes of the first half, but Miguel Merentiel tied it at 46. In the second half, the Xeneize turned the game around: Merentiel again, at 22, and Edinson Cavani at 27 gave them the partial 3-1. At 52, Paulo Díaz scored just for the statistics.
Besides, The last Boca-River match at La Bombonera was for Millonario. The match was played on Sunday, October 1, 2023, corresponding to the seventh round of the Professional League Cup. Salomón Rondón put the visitors ahead on the scoreboard at 41 minutes of the first half and in the last play of the match Enzo Díaz established the final score of 2 to 0 to give the victory to those from Núñez. This Superclásico was remembered for the controversy that meant a goal disallowed by the Uruguayan Cavani when the match was 1 to 0 in favor of River.
Each one will arrive at the Superclásico in different contexts. For Boca, the schedule will be less demanding, but not easy. The Xeneize, without international competitions after being eliminated from the Copa Sudamericana in the round of 16 against Cruzeiro, will arrive with more time to rest. Next Saturday Boca will play against Talleres for a place in the quarterfinals of the Copa Argentina. After the FIFA break, they will visit Racing on the weekend of September 15 and on the 21st of the same month, it will be the time for the clash against their classic of a lifetime.

For River, the calendar is more pressing. Despite not having any competition during this break, Gallardo’s team will host Atlético Tucumán on the weekend of September 15, in a match that will surely be played on Friday or Saturday. Immediately, the road to hope begins in the Copa Libertadores: On Tuesday, September 17th, at 9:30 p.m., they will visit Colo Colo in the first leg of the quarter-finals. The following Saturday, they will visit Boca in the Superclásico, at 4 p.m., and on the 24th, they will play their revenge against the Chileans in the continental competition.
In general history Boca and River played 262 matches between amateurism, professionalism and different types of cups. The team from Ribera won 92 matches while the team from Núñez obtained 86 victories. In addition, they tied in 84 matches between them, with the exception that among all those duels there is a 0-0 in 1919 that is not considered in the history because the tournament was cancelled.
