It’s done, we know the composition of the French team which will participate in the second edition of the ATP Cup. From February 1 to 5 in Melbourne (Australia), twelve selections of four players each will compete.
The biggest stars of world tennis will meet in Melbourne for the second edition of the ATP Cup, with the exception of legend Roger Federer. A few days before the Australian Open (February 8 to 21), the ATP Cup will bring back a lot of people. And on the side of the Blues, no big surprises. Gaël Monfils will be the headliner of the France team. The French number one will be aligned on the singles matches, just like his compatriot Benoît Paire, also selected. It will therefore be Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Nicolas Mahut who will make up the French pair for the double. The first of them said to himself ” iron “ to represent again the colors blue, white, red. The only difference compared to the first edition, the veteran Gilles Simon will not be on the other side of the barrier this time. Indeed, “the professor”, by his nickname, decided to align himself with the second ATP 250 tournament in Melbourne, and not to participate in the ATP Cup as a coach / player.
Already contested in Australia last year, the ATP Cup will experience its second edition. Last January, Novak Djokovic’s Serbia won in the final against Rafael Nadal’s Spain. This competition marks the return of a new international cup in the players’ calendar, since the disappearance of the World Team Cup in 2012. A player who wins all his singles matches (group stage and elimination stage included), would win 750 points ATP. This cup therefore has real challenges for the players. Whether it’s winning an international title with your home country and / or earning ATP points on a personal level. For the moment, the composition of the groups has not yet been revealed. The twelve qualifying nations will soon be divided into four groups. The first of each of them will advance directly to the semi-finals. Each match will be played with two singles matches and one doubles match. The France team hopes to do better than last year. The Blues had failed to get out of their group by finishing third behind Serbia and South Africa.
