The Toronto Blue Jays suffered an offensive failure against the Mets on Friday in New York, being shut out 3-0 by rookie pitcher Tylor Megill.

The 25-year-old won his first career decision, making his seventh start to the campaign. Megill (1-0) was almost perfect during the six innings he spent on the mound. He only gave the Jays two hits and one walk, in addition to taking five strikeouts.
Most of the big guns in the Toronto organization, including Vladimir Guerrero Jr., have been silent. It was quite the opposite for Pete Alonso, who went there from a pair of home runs to get all the Mets points. The 26-year-old has reached the 20 longball plateau for the second time in three seasons.
This is a third straight loss for the Blue Jays. The Mets have not allowed a point in their last two meetings.
A good start benefits the Cubs
The Cubs scored the first seven points of their duel against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday in Chicago on their way to an 8-3 victory.

Javier Baez opened the ball in the first inning. With Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo on the trails, the shortstop ejected the ball out of bounds.
The home side started another three-point push in the third inning, starting with a poor pitch from visiting gunner Zac Gallen, which saw Rizzo cross the plate. Nico Hoerner then allowed Baez and Matt Duffy to take home plate.
Robinson Chirinos added a seventh point in his next round at bat, thanks to a long solo ball. The latter repeated the feat in the sixth round.
At the mound, Zach Davies helped his side by allowing just two runs, on seven hits and two walks. In five and a third innings, he has taken the dust off eight opponents.
All three Diamondbacks points were produced by Daulton Varsho.
