The blue returns to the court tonight almost a month after his early elimination at the Australian Open, in five sets, at the hands of Lloyd Harris.
The carrarino, seeded number three in the tournament, will make his seasonal debut on his beloved red clay, the surface where he obtained his first title in the top circuit in Hamburg in 2022, beating the current number two in the final Carlos Alcaraz, also present in the Argentine capital. The goal for Musetti is to earn as many points as possible between Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, next week’s tournament, to enter the top sixteen in the world (he is currently in 20th place in the standings), and therefore be seeded in all the Masters 1000, starting from Miami and Indian Wells in March.
Italy’s number two opponent is Pedro Cachin: born in 1995, the Argentinian is a specialist on clay and the support of his compatriots will be able to give him an edge. In the first round, the world number sixty-eight knocked out Brazilian Monteiro in straight sets. Cachin, at ATP level, has never reached the quarterfinals, while he holds excellent results in the Challengers, especially last season: in 2022, the Argentine won four minor circuit tournaments out of seven finals played.
