The blood reserves in Casablanca can only cover one day currently (Dr. Darid at 2M.ma)

Current blood reserves are insufficient in the Casablanca-Settat region, says Dr. Amal Darid Ibnelfarouk, director of the Casablanca-Settat region blood transfusion center (CRTS).

Contacted by 2M.ma, the director of the CRTS specifies that the current stock situation and the equivalent of a day’s consumption, is well below the minimum reserve threshold recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), that is, seven days.

According to the official, “the reserves of blood bags in the metropolis can currently only cover one day, while the agglomeration of Casablanca has several private clinics, public hospitals and CHU with Hematology services. and Oncology, which consume large amounts of blood ”.

And to add: “the situation of our blood reserves has worsened, recently, because of a certain reluctance recorded among certain vaccinated citizens. I would like to make an appeal and remind you that after 7 days of injecting the anti-Covid-19 vaccine you can donate blood ”.

Note that the regularity of donations is essential because the lifespan of blood products is short: 42 days for red blood cells and only 7 days for platelets. Plasma, which freezes, can be stored for a year.
