The Blood Drinkers: A Terrifying Soviet Horror Film

An unforgettable and terrible sight.

Soviet directors loved family dramas and comedies, but they also didn’t forget about horror films. Among the horror films of that time, Evgeny Tatarsky’s film “The Blood Drinkers”, which became a film adaptation of Alexei Tolstov’s work “The Ghoul,” especially stands out.

This mystical thriller, released in 1991, is a hundred times scarier than Dracula. The story of the bloodsuckers scared the hell out of viewers.

The plot centers on a young prince who develops warm feelings for a beautiful young lady. The main character is invited to stay at his beloved’s estate, and he agrees, not knowing how it will turn out.

It soon turns out that the relatives of the fatal beauty are real vampires. One of the main stars of the film was Marina Vladi, the wife of Vladimir Vysotsky. Part of the filming process took place in Italy, which was very rare back then.
