Argentina won the World Cup by defeating defending champions France on penalties in the Qatar World Cup Final. Messi with the black and white shirt of Argentina has been the dream of Argentine fans for years. That 36-year wait ended yesterday at the Lausanne stadium in Qatar.
Before handing the world title to Messi, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamid Al Thani dressed Messi in a black robe. Messi accepted the golden cup wearing this top, approached his teammates with the cup and posed for a photo.
Why did the Emir of Qatar make Messi wear this suit? What’s so special about that black dress?
It is a traditional dress worn by Arabs. This dress is known as ‘Bisht’ and is worn by members of the royal family, political leaders, religious leaders and very wealthy people at certain functions to show their pride. This garment is mainly used in the Persian Gulf countries, Iraq and the northern countries of Saudi Arabia. This dress is mostly worn on special occasions like weddings.
As a tribute to Messi, the Emir of Qatar dressed Messi in it. After wearing this outfit for a while, Messi put on another three-star Argentina shirt. Messi wore a shirt with three stars to indicate that this is Argentina’s third World Cup.
But Messi’s number 10 shirt has been worn by some people who have criticized it.
