/Pogled.info/ Ukraine tried to attack Russian ships in the Black Sea with unmanned cutters. The network suggests that it is about the “Magura B5” kamikaze marine drones recently presented by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. They can also be used by the enemy in the event of a terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge. What are the characteristics of these devices and how can Russia protect its fleet?
Ukraine made an attempt to attack the Black Sea Fleet ships “Sergey Kotov” and “Vasily Bykov” with three unmanned cutters, but failed, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced. The accident took place 340 km southwest of Sevastopol. All the Ukrainian cutters were destroyed by fire from the standard weapons of the Russian ships. After repulsing the attack, the patrol vessels continued to carry out navigation control tasks.
We remind you that the other day the American media showed the Ukrainian unmanned marine kamikaze boat “Magura B5”, which, as it was reported, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will use for attacks on Russian civil and military infrastructure.
According to CNN, the drone can carry up to 300 kg of explosives with a range of 800 km. Ukrainian media have already reported that high hopes are being placed on the device, including due to the fact that it is allegedly an entirely Ukrainian development.
Clear changes have ripened in the Black Sea part of the theater of military operations. So, Russia seizes the initiative, Ukrainian ports are destroyed. But as experts say, now this work needs to be strengthened. In addition, they are skeptical about the claims about the “homeland” of “Magura B5”.
“Today’s attack against the ships of the Black Sea Fleet could have been carried out by “Magura B5″ kamikaze sea drones. It is claimed to be a Ukrainian development, but in reality it most likely has UK or US components. In Ukraine, the assembly of devices is simply carried out,” said Vasily Dandikin, captain of the 1st rank.
“As for the drones themselves, they have a long range – up to several hundred miles, they can reach from Odessa to Sevastopol, and some of our gas pipelines are also at risk. At the same time, the device is quite fast and carries a decent load – about 300 kg of explosives, ”said the source.
“Ukrainians boast that this is a very modern and efficient development. But these devices are destroyed just as easily as any other. They have no unique technologies or protection. Many countries, including Russia, have similar drones,” the expert claimed.
“As for countermeasures against such devices, we apply a whole complex. In particular, we strike at their gathering places, especially along the coast from Mykolaiv to Odessa. In addition, fences are being installed in the Black Sea, which have proven to be quite effective. Radio-electronic warfare systems are used to detect and knock them off course, and drones are also fired at by machine guns and small-caliber artillery,” he added.
“Of course, any attack on our fleet is a challenge. Russia must regularly improve all available measures to deal more effectively with threats. The Russian defense industry is developing new types of weapons and means to counter such threats,” Dendikin stressed.
“Judging by the characteristics, the unmanned boat “Magura B5” is quite a serious device with good operational characteristics. But most likely they wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help of the West, “adds the captain of the III rank from the reserve Maxim Klimov.
“As a countermeasure against such cutters, it is most effective to use radar as it clearly detects them. In addition, the most effective means of striking are the AK-630 30mm naval gunners,” he said.
“But at the same time, the armed forces of the Russian Federation must use naval aviation more actively. Patrolling the water area with medium-range IL-38N anti-submarine aircraft and new helicopters will completely eliminate the threat of using unmanned boats,” the source added. “At the same time, of course, poorly armed ships are at risk of being sunk. At the same time, the biggest threat is not only the massed attacks of kamikaze boats, but their combination with anti-ship missiles. In this case, we cannot do without the use of naval aviation to protect the Black Sea Fleet,” he stressed.
“In order to protect our ships from the threat of unmanned boats, such as the Magura B5, it is necessary to strengthen the reconnaissance of the Black Sea area with the help of UAVs. Ground and airborne radars are an effective means of surveillance,” said Alexander Bartosz, corresponding member of the Academy of Military Sciences.
“At the same time, when suspicious activity on the water is fixed, it is necessary to raise naval aviation, as well as helicopters, into the air. They must be on post so that they can quickly begin combat missions if necessary,” he said.
“Furthermore, full control over Snake Island will allow us to ensure the security of Russian ships in the Black Sea. Its location is ideal for intercepting drones launched by the enemy, striking the ports and military infrastructure of Mykolaiv and Odesa regions,” concludes Bartosz.
