The “Black History” of American Indian Boarding Schools – 2024-08-06 11:42:53

/ world today news/ On August 7, the “Washington Post” newspaper published a material revealing another tragic story with testimonies of four people who passed through a boarding house for Indians.

Four, now over seventy years of age, share that as children they had to do hard work, were subject to constant discrimination and physical punishment for even minimal mistakes in their behavior. They were subjected to verbal abuse and beatings when they dared to speak the language of their tribe. The girls had to cut their long hair, and some were often subjected to sexual harassment.

The Washington Post states that between 1870 and 1969, the US government established more than 400 Indian boarding schools in 37 states, through which tens of thousands of children went. Several thousand are believed to have died there, and many others were subjected to sexual, physical and mental abuse.
