An exhibition is held at the Korean History Museum that traces the history of infectious diseases that have threatened humanity, such as the Black Death, cholera, Spanish flu and the Corona 19.

The Korean History Museum, a special exhibition to commemorate the 10th anniversary of its opening, will be on display in the special exhibition hall until January 31 next year.

The exhibition addresses the global pandemic of infectious diseases, that is, the ‘pandemic’, from a world-historical perspective. The history of the major infectious diseases that humanity has experienced, including COVID-19, is revealed with a total of 150 data, including photos, recordings and video content.

In the first part of the exhibition, “Prosperity and trade-related diseases”, it shows how endemic diseases have spread to other continents along international trade networks with the development of transport methods since modern times and how they have spread around the world.

Part 2, “The Return of Infectious Diseases” deals with infectious diseases that appear one after another despite medical advances. You can see cases of zoonotic diseases such as bird flu and Nipah virus infection along with “Child and Sick Chicken” and “Homeless Bat” animations.

The third part, “Reconnect”, shows the vulnerability of our society revealed in the crown pandemic, such as the closure of borders, regional blockades, the unequal supply of vaccines and discrimination against infected people, through newspaper articles and pieces of polystyrene.
