The bishop assumes that there will be no parades at Easter

The bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, José Lorca Planes, has sent a letter to all the brothers in which he assumes that this year there will not be processional parades at Easter either, given the high incidence of infections by Covid-19. Planes encourages them to live Passion Week and its preparation “with serenity, without haste, without being overwhelmed by the procession; now you are going to live this mystery from within, intensifying your spirituality, answering so many questions that you have asked yourself for so long and have not found the occasion to do so ».

Lorca leads the letter, sent to all the brothers, under the title ‘Mercy and fidelity meet (Ps 84)’. He greets them “at this time, knowing that you are still affected by the pain of spending Easter without taking the processions out onto the streets (for last year) and, at the same time, with the well-founded fear that this year the same will happen. ».

And he adds: «I am sorry for this situation with you, because we all know that it is very hard, but it is the consequences of the storm that has fallen on us with Covid-19; however, we must value your positive response, the beautiful testimony of responsibility and the greatness of your common sense in accepting this serious inconvenience with serenity.

Last week, the representatives of the Cabildo Superior de Cofradías held a meeting to address different issues, including the possibility or not of the parades being held. Its president, José Ignacio Sánchez, commented that they did not comment on what could happen “because, above all, we will do what the health officials and the bishop say.” He announced that they would revert to the issue in early February.
