The Birthplace of Saint Bernard in Fontaine-lès-Dijon to Become Diocesan Sanctuary and Museum Space

The diocese of Dijon announces that work will allow the creation of a museum space, the creation of a terrace and guest rooms.

Attracting the faithful as well as lovers of culture and heritage, fascinated by the spiritual scope of Saint Bernard, considered since his death as a powerful intercessor, the birthplace of Fontaine-lès-Dijon is a prestigious, calm and rejuvenating site.

How to make his thought and the power of his exhortations resonate and shine in the hearts of our contemporaries? Our Archbishop and Don Guillaume Chevallier, parish priest of the Dijon – Saint-Bernard and Fontaine-lès-Dijon parishes, very quickly questioned themselves.

A diocesan sanctuary erected for Saint Bernard

Supported by diocesan faithful, the primary goal of this work is to improve the visibility of this place, its accessibility while respecting the very essence of what makes the spirituality of Saint Bernard: silence, prayer, education , and this, of course, while respecting the natural environment of the hill.

The birthplace of Saint Bernard, which is the pride of the Fontenois, has been a place of uninterrupted pilgrimages for almost a thousand years. Also, a space will be reserved for the exhibition of the relics of the saint, on this site which is declared a diocesan sanctuary.

The work launched will allow the creation of a museum space evoking Bernard and his family, the creation of a terrace in the middle of nature at the back of the building, guest rooms, a conference room, etc.

Podcast, summer show, museography, summer visits by candlelight… It is a real cultural project that is taking shape in this green setting that bears the mark of history.

Wide-ranging attractiveness

It is an ambitious project to build a place open to all for spirituality and culture. A place fully dedicated to Saint Bernard, his action, his spirituality which would plunge visitors into the joyful and mystical atmosphere of the Burgundian Middle Ages. The action of Saint Bernard concerned the whole of Europe, allow us to dream beyond our borders!
